Bernt Guldbrandtsen was appointed a full professor of animal breeding. He comes from Sønderborg in Demark, studied biology at the University of Aarhus in Denmark. In 1994, he was awarded his doctorate in theoretical population genetics from Aarhus University. During his Ph.D. studies, he stayed at Stanford University. In 1996, he moved to agricultural science and worked at the Danish Institute of Animal Sciences, which, in 2007, became part of Aarhus University. Since 2011, he has been an associate professor with research stays in the UK, Australia, and the USA as well being seconded to deCode Genetics in Iceland as part of a Marie Curie project.

His research and teaching foci are quantitative genetics and the study of genomes of farm animals for gene mapping, genomic selection, population history and protection of endangered breeds
