Chris McCool was appointed as a Professor at the University of Bonn within the Faculty of Agriculture in February, 2019. He was previously a Senior Researcher within the Robotics and Autonomous Systems group at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia.

He received his PhD with the Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies (SAIVT) group at QUT in 2007. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Idiap Research Institute (Switzerland) developing state-of-the-art face recognition techniques capable of running on mobile phones. He then returned to Australia to join the National ICT of Australia in an initiative for Environmental Computer Vision. In 2014, he rejoined QUT where he worked on Agricultural Robotics and was a key member in the development of two agricultural robots AgBot II and Harvey. He has a particular interest in applied image classification, computer vision, pattern recognition and their application to robots and autonomous systems that can use this information to take action in challenging environments such as agriculture.
