When is it possible to apply?
- Application for winter semester:
- Currently you can only apply from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (MEZ/MESZ)
- International Applicants: from 1st April to 30th April
- German, EU and equal applicants: from 15th June to 15th July
- Application for summer semester:
- Currently you can only apply from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (MEZ/MESZ)
- International applicants: from 1st October to 31th October
- German, EU and equal applicants: from 15th December to 15th January
- For the master study programs "Nature conservation and landscape ecology" and "Crop Sciences" you can only apply for the winter semester.
- You will find information on whether international applicants are on equal terms with the German in the following regulations:
- Staatsvertrag über die Errichtung einer gemeinsamen Einrichtung für Hochschulzulassung in its current version.
- Gesetz über die Zulassung zum Hochschulstudium in Nordrhein-Westfalen (Hochschulzulassungsgesetz) in its current version.
- Verordnung über die Vergabe von Studienplätzen in Nordrhein-Westfalen (Vergabeverordnung) in its current version.
Which requirements must I fulfill?
- As requirement for admission, you need a first professional qualification (e.g. the Bachelor’s degree) in the respective study field or a related subject. Further details you will find in the respective examination regulations.
- The grading as a related subject will be carried out by a selection committee on the basis of your application documents. Previous enquiries concerning the relatedness can’t therefore be answered.
- The last examination achievement out of your first professional qualification has to be completed before the start of your Master’s programme. For this purpose, you have to submit a proof (degree certificate or attestation of the examination office) in the first week of October (in the winter semester), or in the first week of April (in the summer semester). This proof needs to state that all achievements, including the final paper of the previous studies, have been completed successfully.
- Please note, that you must have a language certificate (e.g. DSH 2 or TestDaF 4444) for enrolment. You can get more information about german courses and DSH on the website of the International Office.
How many study places are there?
The study places are for applicants from states of the EU/EEC. For applicants from states outside of the EU/EEC, there are 5% of the study places reserved (at least one study place).

Which documents do I need?
- The following documents have to be uploaded in the application system (pdf or jpg):
- University entrance qualification (e.g.”Abitur”certificate, graduation diploma)
- Certificate or current, preliminary overview of grades of a first professional qualification (e.g. the Bachelor’s degree) in German or English language. The average grade must be clearly recognizable, and the completed modules need to be listed individually for a possible estimation of the relatedness to a study field.
- Translated documents must be officially certified
- Applicants from China, Vietnam and India need to submit the APS certificate.
- Applicants with a preliminary attestation of grades: You apply with the average grade current at the time of application. Later modifications of the grade cannot be considered. You have to submit your final degree certificate in the examination office at the beginning of October (if your starting semester is the winter semester) respectively at the beginning of April (if your starting semester is the summer semester).
- All mandatory details will be requested in the application portal. You are always able to interrupt the application, and log in later to complete it.
How do I apply?
- You can only apply online. It is not necessary to send the documents by post additionally.
- Application documents sent by post cannot be considered and will not be sent back!
- Please note that you have to fully complete and send off your application in the online portal. Applications, which have not been sent at due date, cannot be taken into account.
- For enquries concerning your application, please always quote your application number, otherwise your request will not be answered.

Can I change information after I submitted my online application?
- After you submitted your online application you can't change information by yourself. If you find some mistakes, please send an e-mail to the contact person listed below. We only can change information until the application deadline.
- You can't submit changes, after the application ended.
When do I know, if I get a study place?
- After application deadline there is an application committee for each study program, which decides on your application.
- The notifications (admission or rejection) will be sent via the application system. You are always able to look at the current status in the application system. You will receive those notifications to the email address given in the application, by email exclusively.
- It may take several weeks after the application ended, until you get you notification.
- The admission is only valid for the respective semester and cannot be transferred to the following semester.
Why couldn't I get a study place?
- If you are rejected due to reasons of capacity (nummerus clausus), you automatically take part in the move-up procedure, in case that some study places are rejected. You fulfilled all other requirements and your first professional qualification is related to the study program you applied for.
- If you didn't fulfill all requirements or you didn't apply completely, you can't get a study place. In this case, you can't take part in the move-up procedure

How can I register for the study program?
- The deadlines for enrolment are shown on your acceptance letter. You will also find the deadlines on the website of the University of Bonn.

Is there a move-up procedure, if I didn't get a study place?
- If you are rejected due to reasons of capacity (nummerus clausus), you automatically take part in the move-up procedure, in case that some study places are rejected.
- Please refrain from contacting us regardind the move-up procedure. We will contact you, in case of vacant study places.
How can I apply for a higher study semester?
- For a planned beginning of studies in the summer semester, you must apply in the period from 15 February till 15 March, and for planned beginning of studies in the winter semester, you must apply from 15 August till 15 September. Applications for admission to a higher semester must be submitted via the online application system.
