Studying outside of Europe

You would like to gain new experiences, further your education in your subject area, explore the world and improve your language skills? Then why not spend one or two semesters abroad outside of Europe?

For your semester abroad, you can make use of the extensive network of partner universities of the University of Bonn, or of institute partnerships of the Agricultural Faculty. Additionally, there is the possibility of self-organized stays at universities with which the University of Bonn has no exchange agreements. There are also various funding options depending on the type of exchange and stay:

Global Exchange Program

If you are interested in studying abroad outside of Europe, the Global Exchange Program offers you the opportunity to study at partner universities of the University of Bonn in Asia, Australia, Latin America or North America. As part of the program, tuition fees are waived and a one-off study grant is paid. The program is organized by the International Office.

The application deadlines vary depending on the country.

Free Mover

Furthermore, it is possible to organize a stay abroad independently of existing exchange programs as a free mover. There is the option of self-financing or applying to the PROMOS scholarship program (support for self-organized, study-related semesters abroad and internships outside of Europe, language courses and summer schools).

The application deadlines for PROMOS are in January and June (for stays in the subsequent months) and are therefore possible at relatively short notice, so an application may be possible until shortly before the stay.

Institute partnerships

Some institutes maintain partnerships with universities abroad, which can be used for stays abroad (tuition fees are waived). For such an exchange, it is also possible to apply to PROMOS. You can obtain further information from your institute.
